Giclees
The Process
- Giclees are produced using a sophisticated process
which involves an enhanced Iris 3047 digital ink jet
printer.
- These printers have been specifically modified for fine art precision. The printers use a
continuous tone
technology in which infinitely small pixels of color are capable of rendering an
amazingly smooth and
consistent image.
- The substrate to be printed on is
affixed to a drum and as the drum rotates at a high speed, individual droplets of
colors are sprayed on to the surface at a rate of 4 to 5 million droplets per second. The substrate
used can be either canvas or a choice of high quality papers.
- The size of the image
can be as large as 30" x 40" or as small as 16" x 20" depending on the edition size. The 30" x 40" sheet can be divided into four 16" x 20"
images, two 20" x 32" images, or one 30" x 40" image.
- These images can also be embellished by the artist,
especially when the image is printed on canvas.
Prices
- Due to the higher quality and sophistication of the giclee printmaking process
and the larger sized available as compared to the embellished print, the
price range is higher than that of prints.
